Kitchen Update 1

I can't believe it, but it's been 1 month since we demo-ed out the kitchen/living room wall.

Since then, we've stripped off two layers of vinyl flooring,

the tan and maroon brick pattern-ed vinyl was glued directly onto fir flooring, then it was painted --by hand-- that strange green with squiggly Xs, then the darker maroon brick pattern (oddly similar to the vinyl beneath it) was laid over the other stuff with a plywood underlainment. PHEW.

removed the tin ceilings
every other corner of each little square had a nail in it that had to be removed with plyers by hand. I got blisters on almost every finger -- including my pinky -- removing 1/4 of it, then passed off that duty to Dan.

drew up an electrical plan, submitted a permit proposal, and met with the electrical inspector
kitchen needs a lot of circuits. Some changes in the plan since then, but mostly up-to-date.
roughed-in the electrical
hah, you can see our tin ceiling piled up on the floor
not taking any chances around here

sold our kitchen sink off of Craig's List
sinkless since Sept 26 (3 weeks ago). We've been washing our dishes in the bathtub :(
Bought a bunch of stuff
counters

appliances

a gas fireplace
had Carpenter Dan drywall the ceiling and wall with windows, then I stripped 4 layers of wallpaper, and mudded/taped the drywall seams. Today the stove got un-hooked, and Dan patched in the holes in the flooring where the old wall used to be.

Almost there!

Also, I re-bought a different refrigerator because check it:

I went into Home Depot yesterday since my 10% off coupon was expiring, and I found this LG fridge sitting in the front. The fridge we originally bought from Lowes was counter-depth and didn't have a water/ice dispenser in the front (which I liked) ---but it was 1900$ and that was a slightly-on-sale price. They even accepted my 10% off coupon, so including delivery, I got a brand new, still-wrapped LG refrigerator for 1100$!!!!!! It sounds like a lot of money, but once you start shopping around for new refrigerators, you'll see -- it's a banging price. Even Lowes said so (they couldn't match it).
