Dining room electrical

I upped my electrical challenges for the dining room: three-way light switch (light switched from TWO different locations) and chandelier. If you recall, we really wanted to put a chandelier into our parlour, but couldn't get the wire to it without ripping down our tin ceiling. This time, we pretty much ran into the same problem, but because I think a chandelier in the dining room is absolutely essential, I was dead-set on finding a solution, even if it meant tearing out the wood flooring in the floor above.

....which is what we ended up doing. We had to tear out some pine planks, then cut out two layers of subfloor to get to the floor joists:
out come the pine planks. Can't avoid breaking a few
Luckily, under the vinyl floor of the kitchen we're ripping out, we found more of this pine flooring. So we can replace some of the boards we broke with planks from the kitchen.

floor joists. that's the wire that ran to the upside down mushroom light in the dining room

knob and tube wiring

yucky cats climbed into the joist space and got realllly dusty
Mango trying to get into the space...we covered up the hole with boards
Wire is running from the basement, to a switch on the wall of the dining room, up the wall, across the floor joist, then to the ceiling box. I had to open it up a little more to get to the wall...

Yellow drawn-in line shows where the wire is running under the floor

another wire is running up the wall to supply current to another room and the smoke alarms

hello, Mango-butt

Hope it was worth it...
The rest of the wiring was a breeze, and we passed inspection no problem.
Mango helped, of course
This is how dirty you get when you work in a dirt basement. Dan says I look like a lost boy from Peter Pan.

We'll do a final dining room post later but here is a picture of the chandelier all of this electrical work was for:
From a website that sells the chandy
